Memorial Service for John Malcolm Collier

Wednesday 21st of July at Salisbury Cathedral

Happy Days: It is forecast to be hot on Wednesday. Please dress comfortably. Ties are not mandatory! To lighten the mood, we would ask you to wear (at least) one bright item! The Cathedral have given us special permission to sing the hymns! This is the first time in a while for them and us so let’s do the music proud.

Covid: Despite the recent change in government guidelines, we continue to be respectful of the Covid situation. The reception will be in an open/well-ventilated environment. Social distancing will be possible in the Cathedral – the protocol will be much like visiting a restaurant (mask on if moving around, take it off when seated – at your discretion). If you can, please do a lateral flow test in the 24-48 hrs before the event.

Reception Directions: This will be held at the Big School Room (BSR) at Salisbury Cathedral School. Access the Cathedral Close via the High Street Gate (Sat Nav post code SP1 2PF). At the Warden’s box explain you are attending the reception/service. You will then turn left and (keeping the Cathedral on your immediate right) follow the road round to the Cathedral School. Go through the School gates. Further information at https://www.salisburycathedralschool.com/Admissions/How-to-Find-Us/

Parking: There will be ample spaces inside the Cathedral School gates. Please park (in an orderly fashion) on the sports pitches on the right side between the School and the Cathedral.

Reception: The main reception will be indoors in the Big School Room which is well ventilated. This is up one flight of stairs (no lift). There will be staff around to help you up the stairs if required. There will be access to a small amount of additional outside space (with shade) in the courtyard garden. Please do not go beyond this as the School is also running activity camps – tempting as the climbing frame is, it is not for us!

Light Relief: There are two single unisex toilets at the Cathedral School for use by guests. However, if you can can hang on long enough, the Cathedral has a full suite of facilities (including disabled access) which you will pass on the way to the service.

Going straight to the service?: you will also be able to access the service directly through the North Porch Cathedral Entrance.

Live-streaming: Unfortunately the Cathedral have said that this is not possible for the service today. I am very sorry that those not physically able to attend will not be able to join the memorial service online.

However, the funeral recording from 27 May is still available via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhpopZMGNRo. The service starts about 8 minutes in.

Any problems on the day: As Dad would say – “don’t hesitate to cope!”

To allow us to plan numbers more accurately, please use the RSVP form below to indicate if you can attend on the day (plus any other requirements).
